Shoes offer a sense of fashion in the world. Walking down the sidewalk you see many different styles, tennis shoes, boots, and flip-flops. While these appear to be one of the most relaxed footwear, they can prove to beinevitably bad for your knees and feet. Easy to put on, this footwear actually makes it harder for a person to walk effectively and comfortably.
When you’re walking, your toes are working
As you walk, your toes are supposed to bend up and create a natural support for your foot and ankle to stand on. When you wear flip-flops, your toes must scrunch together to hold the footwear to your foot and thus stop your toes from providing the correct support for your foot. This is bad for the muscles that bring your toes up when you walk and can cause soreness in the areas. The "shuffling" as you walk in flip-flops also prevents you from bringing your feet up higher and taking longer strides. Joints can begin to ache and you grow tired much more easily.
The lack of arch support for your foot is also a problem amongst flip-flop styles. Long walks and running will cause wear and tear on a person with a fitness program. The arch support is necessary for calf and ankle support which will be important while you are running and walking for a long distance. Although the flip-flop can seem like relaxing footwear, the only convenience that they offer is the ease to put them on. Simple things like walking and jumping will be more difficult and cause your legs and joints to be worn out faster. For a person on the beach or a short walk to the mailbox, this footwear can offer ease when you have to get there and get the job done. You aren’t going to want to run into the water wearing your shoes and socks, so this footwear can still prove to be useful.
Not preferred for athletes or exercise
Flip-flops would not be the preferred footwear of athletes. This entire situation would present a downfall to any person trying to get fit. Treadmills are a killer for this type of footwear. If you fail to scrunch your toes to hold the flip-flop on, it will come off and may get caught in the machine resulting in injury. If you are concerned with sweaty feet, try slippers if you must, but stay away from the construction of devices similar to the flip-flop. Tennis shoes and athletic footwear will be the best type of foot protection for your fitness program. This will reduce the stress on your knees and feet so that you can achieve an effective workout.
Achieving an effective workout
When dressing for your workout, remember to dress appropriate for your environment. Stay away from flip-flops during your fitness routine. Try to find a set of footwear that is going to provide your feet with the necessary support for your workout. Check that the arch matches your foot, and that the tread is proper for your activities. If you’ve got happy feet, you will be able to enjoy a fun workout.
